Zoom meeting Tuesday 13th April, 2:30.

Dr Jennifer Bute

You may have seen Dr Bute interviewed on radio and television.   Her book, ‘Dementia from the Inside: a doctor’s personal journey of hope’ is helping thousands.

In the book she writes, ‘All my experience and knowledge tell me that when someone has dementia, the real person is still there, even if trapped with a body and a condition that makes it hard for them to communicate.  It gives me great joy to ‘find’ those who are further along the path than I am.’

In the following chapter she tells of times when people who were apparently unable to communicate were helped to break through. ‘You can help people to talk; you take what they can do and improve it, and move it along,’ she says.

Dr Bute was a GP and Fellow of the Royal College when diagnosed with dementia some years ago.  She now lives in a dementia inclusive retirement village, where she runs a Japanese Memory Group using the principles learned from eminent Japanese neuroscientist Prof Kawashima.  She gives talks to medical professionals and is consulted by experts from all over the world.

These Zoom meetings are small in number, so participants can ask questions and share.
