It’s good to announce that our latest little book, ‘Caring for an Elderly Parent: When Grandma Came to Stay’ is published today!
It’s been written by Dr Sarah Jones, who was a consultant in medicine for older people until she took early retirement to look after the children’s Grandma. Sarah shares her professional and personal experience and the book is packed with useful information, including an intriguing piece called, ‘Why Grandma can eat jam first’!
It joins our growing library of ‘condensed’ little books. They include ‘Six Steps to Making a Dementia Friendly Church’, by a former nurse and care home manager who initiated changes in her church. The church has been dementia friendly for several years now, with people with dementia coming into Sunday services, midweek services and services in the community. Others in stock now are ‘Living God’s Purpose in Your Senior Years’, (much in demand) by Louise Morse and Roger Hitchings, and ‘Visiting People with Dementia’, by Janet Jacob, former psychogeriatric nurse and home manager.
You can buy them via the website, www.pilgrimsfriend.org.uk.
Also on the website you’ll find ‘Helping to Put the Pieces Together’, a pack of separate inserts about different aspects of living with dementia, including managing ‘challenging’ behaviour’; and my latest book, DEMENTIA: PATHWAYS TO HOPE. Earlier this week we received an email from someone who was thinking of giving up visiting people in care homes, when he read the book and said he was persuaded by the Holy Spirit not to!
